Mosquitoes

How not to become tonight's feast for the mozzie

Mosquitoes in Pefkos

Like any Island with warm weather, Mosquitoes thrive particularly in the first and last months of the summer season. In July and August when even the nights can be in the 30's, the fresh water mozzies need to breed is minimal, so numbers are low.

There's no danger of deseases such as Zika and Malaria here, but mozzie bites can be a pain.

Evenings and night times are when mosquitoes will bite. If you follow these tips you shouldn't have a problem - we recommend doing this all season.

For most, following sensible precautions means no bites. But if you do get bitten whilst you are out, dab some vinegar on the affected area as soon as you can - this is what many locals do and seems to work to stop the bite growing in size. We recommend also using an insect bite cream such as After Bite.

And finally, when you're here you'll see bats flitting around high above you at night. An average a bat needs to eat over 3000 insects every night - that's a lot of Moquitoes removed every night!
